I feel a little shy about introducing our newest family member – currently 12 days old via a blog. Many of you that follow us on Facebook have already offered your congratulations on the birth of Little Lady Bub. I know however that there are some good folk that follow this blog that will be wondering what the outcome of my hideously fraught pregnancy was. Admittedly I made it my personal mission to debunk the “yummy mummy” myth. I suffered severe morning sickness until the day of delivery, gestational diabetes requiring me to inject myself with insulin four times a day, disabling low blood pressure making it impossible to carry out normal tasks like grocery shopping by myself, instability of the pelvic bones and a wheelchair for the final six weeks of pregnancy. While perhaps not forgotten, all that is definitely behind us now as the four of us become increasingly besotted with our beautiful new girl. For the record – my labour was uncomplicated, 2.5 hours long, and my physical recovery has been spectacular so far.
While I am not about to embark on a round the world trip with a new baby like we did with Bub 1 when he was 3 months old (I would not recommend it for anyone!) we are planning on introducing Little Lady Bub to the glory of the wide world soon. Until she is vaccinated we will be keeping her away from crowds in an attempt to avoid nasties like whooping cough. After that though, she already has three trips booked, to meet the penguins on Phillip Island, to discover Australia’s convict heritage in Tasmania, and to explore Victoria’s high country and snow fields. I do of course expect her to be non-chalent regarding these trips but it will be nice to have her along.
I am also preparing a review of the Yarra Valley’s Hedgend Maze which we visited with her over the long weekend (you can only keep little boys cooped up so long) and anticipate other country outings with her over the next few weeks that we can report on.
So now is your chance. Our family dynamics have changed and our travels will have to for a while as well. Is there anything regarding traveling with a newborn, very young baby that you would like to hear about?

We are traveling to Fiji soon with our 3 year old and 3 month old. Any tips?
Hi Belinda,
Lucky you! Fiji has had some great deals lately. Make sure that your three month old has received all of their vaccinations before you go. Also visit a travel doctor at least six months before your trip as there is specific health advice related to Fiji that your family should be informed of. Other than that, I always travel with a stroller and a baby carrier – just be wary of using carriers in tropical weather that baby doesn’t get overheated. Baby Bjorn has a carrier for hot climates that we used in Cairns. Also, if you have been fortunate enough to get your three month old into any kind of sleep, feed play routine before your trip try and maintain it while you travel otherwise things can be rather tough sleep wise when you return. Good luck!
