Simple Pleasures – Rainforest swimming at Milla Milla Waterfall

 Milla Milla Falls

Milla Milla Falls

I have been reflecting on simple pleasure recently, especially those that we enjoy in Tropical North Queensland.  We are blessed with a collection of rainforest swimming holes across the far north and particularly enjoy them during stinger season (October to May) when the beaches are off limits.  The stunning Milla Milla Falls are located 873 meters above sea level on the Atherton Tablelands.  The traditional owners of the land are the Mamu people.  Milla Milla Falls is just one waterfall on tropical north Queensland’s waterfall circuit.

As the waterfall is within rainforest at altitude it is a little chilly to swim in, and the weather is often misty however this didn’t detract from my own kid’s joy on a recent visit.

Do expect the waterfall to be busy – the women in the picture with my son are backpackers – Milla Milla is a popular stop on backpacker tours.

Milla Milla falls are two hours drive from Cairns and can be accessed by heading south of the town of Millaa Millaa  and turning left on Theresa Creek Rd – after l km.  Change rooms, toilets, barbeques and picnic tables are onsite.
