I can’t think of anything as heavenly on a beautiful North Queensland day as to go fruit picking with my children. We visited Shaylee Strawberry Farm on the Atherton Tablelands this week. The farm is located on the Gillies Highway between Atherton and Yungaburra, about an hours drive from Cairns. The boys and I delighted in both picking and eating the fresh strawberries, which we purchased according to weight. Bub 1 was amazed “I didn’t know this is the way strawberries grow.” Shaylee Strawberry farm also make their own strawberry ice-cream (yummy). Shaylee Strawberry farm is open for picking to the public from July to November.

Oh what fun! We have done strawberry picking a few times…its so much fun, eating as many as you can and putting as many as possible into buckets.
Great photos.
I love it! I’m so mad at myself for not taking Ella to pick strawberries and blueberries this summer. The season was short where we live and the farms weren’t open for picking the times I thought of it. 🙁
Beth, This is the first time we have gone berry picking. I know Ella did lots of wonderful things even if she missed out on the berry picking this season.
Such memorable moments for sure – those days are lost to me now that my kids are teenagers.
We have some strawberry bushes in the backyard, but haven’t been to strawberry farm. I need to put it on my next year’s summer list-looks fun!
You must be a better gardener than me! It was a fun activity.
