I am sure I am not the only parent that has been faced with this situation. Bub 2 recently turned two years old and now has his own seat – and seat belt on the plane. The problem is that seat belt latch is just too fascinating for a two year old. He refused to leave his seat belt clipped on. It was tantrums for all to hear as I forcibly held his seat belt closed during take-off. The solution? I now ask for an additional infant seat belt for him to fasten and unlock to his hearts content during the flight. His real seat belt now remains safely ignored and fastened as a result

Great idea! The only problem I have is the clanking noise of the seat belt buckle. It is super-annoying and you’re guaranteed to get some glares from fellow passengers (even me).
We had our own row Beth so nobody batted an eyelid – at least not that I could see! I hope it was better than tantrum screaming…
Good thinking dan dan.
This is genius! Can they give you one on domestic flights in the US as well? I’ve only ever been handed an infant belt with international carriers. My 3 year old generally loses it when we have to leave that seatbelt on, most often when we are landing after a long flight. LOVE this idea! I’d love it if you could link this up to Travel Tips Tuesday this week- a weekly blogger link up a friend and I run.
Hi Keryn,
It is legislation in Australia that all domestic carriers offer these to families. I am not sure about the US domestic flights though. Beth, at cloud surfingkids.com (who has also commented on this post) will know as she is a flight attendant in the US. I will be sure to link this up to Travel Tips Tuesday.
That is genius! I love tips like this that just make travel so much easier for parents.
Thanks Jessica. It certainly made my last flight much easier.
What a great tip! I found you through the Travel Tips Tuesday and this is one of the most useful things I’ve read in a long time. 🙂
Hi Jessica. Thanks for your kind words. I hope it helps you out next time you have a flight of your own.
Now if only we could give toddlers an extra seat-back tray and seat-back telephone to play with! (That’s what mine always wanted to play with!)
I’m sure there is a market for anyone that wanted to invent a toy like that!
