Roses The Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show

A garden show may not be an obvious choice of event to enjoy with young kids, particularly if you are a non-gardener like myself.  My husband on the other hand is cultivating his own green thumbs at the moment so we trouped along en masse to visit the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show this weekend.  I’m glad we did – I’m now a convert to garden shows as a feast for the senses and will be on the lookout for others we can attend (already have my eyes set on Canberra’s Floriade in September.

Garden sculptures, and a giant hall filled with floral displays – although created for adults were entrancing for my three year old.

A number of displays catered specifically for kids – the Fairy and Pirate themed children’s garden complete with treasure chest was a winner.

The Children's Garden was fairy and pirate themed. Getting a photo of this garden was almost impossible as there were young children having a great time jumping into each shot. Apologies regarding the bottom in the air in this one as a result

The family favorite though was the Cubby House Challenge.  Five architect designed cubby houses were on display and up for auction to raise money for charity (prices were hoped to be $10 000 for each cubby house).  We all left with a supreme case of cubby house envy as a result.

We couldn't choose the best cubby house - they were all awesome as far as my kids were concerned
