A few other travel bloggers have been posting pictures of wintery Christmas trees. This is Christmas in the tropics. We took the boys to see the Cairns Christmas tree last night, and threw their swimmers into the bag for good measure. A double treat for little boys, Christmas lights and a night swim.

Now that is my kind of Christmas tree! I get so tired of the cold and the snow that I would love to spend Christmas someplace tropical – now if only I could convince the rest of my family!! 🙂
Hi Lisa. I love a warm Christmas myself but also dream of a white Christmas with my whole family one day.
Great to see some Christmas N.Q. Style photographs. Nothing like some prawns and a beer/wine on Christmas Day!
What a beautiful tree! We don’t get the snow here in San Diego but it would be wonderful to spend some Christmas in the tropics or a bit warmer. He sure looks like he’s having fun 🙂
Thanks Mary. My kids are never happier than when they are in the water!
Thanks Jan. I love flying the NQ flag on the blog even if I am dreaming of an escape from our humidity at the moment.
It looks like he’s swimming in some sort of public fountain – is it really a pool? How cool!
It is actually a gigantic lagoon style pool. The edge is shallow for little children to play safely. I probably should have included a photo of it in daylight too!
One more month until I visit Cairns! I booked a hotel by the Esplanade and am so excited. It’s tropical year-round in Penang, and we’ll be celebrating Christmas Eve with a pool party.
Michele that is great you will be visiting Cairns. The Esplanade hotels are perfectly placed. Feel free to ask any questions that might help you enjoy your trip. A Christmas Eve pool party sounds perfect. We are heading down to Melbourne a few days before where the weather is less predictable.
