I would not have suspected that a sophisticated dining experience with my two pre-schoolers was within my reach. Thankfully, the children’s themed high tea at the Langham Melbourne, (which by the way is a treat and a half for parents and kids) changed that. During school holidays Melba Restaurant at the gorgeous Langham Melbourne hosts children’s themed high teas. Until January 31st the Langham will be hosting a children’s high tea influenced by the Disney movie “Frozen”. My children were enchanted with their high tea offering among other decadent delights reindeer cupcakes, snowman marshmallows, blue ice jelly and snowflake cookie. “Frozen” gift packs were also waiting for them when they arrived giving myself and grandma the chance to linger over our own Langham Tiffin, a nostalgic three tier dining experience of finger sandwiches, scones and sweet pastries, with our choice of leaf tea.
The high tea was delivered impeccably on high quality china, and, I like to think it brought out the genteel side in my own rough and tumble boys. As well as enjoying the meal itself they were suitably impressed with the Langham’s grand interior of fountains and chandeliers – just another enjoyable aspect of our visit.
As an aside – we were asked if we had any dietary requirements – I started to tell the waiter that I was pregnant hence the salmon sandwiches would need a substitute when my son piped up “yes she does – she’s diabetic” (I have recently been diagnosed with gestational diabetes). Without missing a beat our waiter said “One high tea suitable for diabetics and in pregnancy coming up”. The high tea I was served had been adjusted perfectly for both conditions, (although I did restrain myself with the sweet pastries). Big ticks from this doctor mum as dietary restrictions are so seldom catered for.
The Langham Children’s themed high tea will be served Monday – Friday until 31 January 2014 between 10am-1130am and 12noon-1.30pm. The cost is $30 per child and $54 per adult

Thank you to the Langham Melbourne for hosting us at their high tea.

I fully applaud the effort of a fancy place to include parents and children! Sounds like win win so all their diners can have a great experience with them.
It was a welcome change for us that’s for sure!
