For the last year I have been receiving emails querying whether I would accept advertising on my blog. I have been reluctant – Bubs on the Move is a hobby blog and I would rather dedicate my time to exploring the world with my kids than turning the blog into a business. I also have paid employment that I love – as a medical doctor. With a new baby on the way (in three weeks!) and more down time at home during maternity leave I have reconsidered.
I have opened my blog up to one type of paid advertising – the sponsored post. How my sponsored posts work is like this – a PR representative of a particular company approaches me and asks if I would accept sponsorship to write a post. I write a story that aligns completely with the ethos of the blog, and what I believe my readers are interested in. The company pays a fee to be listed in the post as a sponsor and linked to in the text of the post. You can be assured that I will always declare that a post is sponsored and who it is sponsored by. Sponsorship of a post does not indicate an endorsement of a company by myself – these are not companies whose services I have used rather they are companies that wish to be aligned with certain stories and linked to accordingly. For an example of a recent sponsored post see below:
Road Trips. Keeping your child safe and occupied.
While I am on maternity leave the money that I am paid for sponsored posts will allow me to keep exploring the world with the kids which in turn will keep the blog going.
I also accept invitations to shows, accommodation and attractions for the purpose of reviewing them for my readers. I do not accept payment to do a review. You can be assured that the review is my own opinion and that I will always declare if I received free entry to the attraction etc.
I recently wrote this review of Zagame’s Paradise Resort on the Gold Coast.
I don’t accept banner ads, or commission for any product purchased by my readers.
In the interest of transparency I really wanted to communicate to ya’ll exactly what was happening advertising wise. I hope the move to paid advertising doesn’t deter any of you – I really appreciate your support over the last year and a half!
