This is a story that I’ve enjoyed researching. Every time friends visit Cairns I make a point of snooping out their accommodation. How much space do they have? What facilities are there? What did they pay? It seems to be pretty hit and miss. Friends that had paid a fortune were unable to use their balcony because it was terribly dangerous for their toddler. Another hotel I had never heard of, in a less popular beach suburb was fantastically priced, offered guests massive apartments, and had the most wonderful pool. A little supplemental research was necessary though – our family has stayed at all of the properties listed here. All offer extra services or facilities for families, rather than just being nice hotels. This list should cater for families on all budgets. Have I missed out on one of your favourites? Let me know.
Top of the range.
Luxurious gorgeousness – Peppers Beach Club and Spa Palm Cove.
Directly opposite the beach, and with a private sandy lagoon pool for days when beach swimming is out of the question, Peppers Beach Club and Spa at Palm Cove would be my top pick for those whose budgets allow. Expect top notch service and food as well as beautifully appointed self contained accommodation.
Mid range.
Paradise Palms Resort
A short drive to Kewarra Beach and Palm Cove and set amongst immaculately maintained tropical gardens Paradise Palms offers spacious apartment accommodation for families. There are plenty of pluses for kids – a mini golf course and adventure playground. On weekends the resort also hosts family focused entertainment. A good option for families planning on hiring a car.
Hotel Grand Chancellor Palm Cove.
This family friendly property offers hotel room accommodation with the second room 50% off for families with children. A waterslide, small playground and onsite kids club during peak months are added bonuses.
For the budget conscious
Cairns Coconut Resort
I have put this Big 4 caravan park in the budget conscious section because it of the wide range of accommodation it offers, some with a budget price tag and others a little more costly. My kids love Cairns Coconut Resort for the family focused extras available onsite. With a water play area, pedal carts, mini-golf, movies under the stars, jumping pillow and adventure playground kids don’t want to leave. It is located on the south side of town, quite a drive from the centre of town and beaches. For families who plan to hire a car, or take tours to the reef or rainforest it is a fun option.

I have friends who have stayed at Cairns Coconut Resort when their kids were smaller. Although they do not normally choose budget options their children had so much fun there, they returned several times.
Wow the spots in Cairns are so beautiful. I visited Last time and the accommodation in cairns australia is really very good…
